The case of Pokémon X and Y has been a curious one. The spree of franchise leaks seem to show no sign of stopping, with more tidbits being revealed and mysteries being solved as the ill-gotten goods keep popping up online. A cancelled Pokémon MMO for the Game Boy Advance was also unearthed. The source code for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl leaked this summer, uncovering beta sprites for a variety of gen 4 Pokémon. This year has seen a variety of Nintendo leaks, with lots of prototype assets and ideas being uncovered for Pokémon games, in particular. Among other things, the latest leak also contains beta maps and a character model resembling original Pokémon protagonist Red with an obviously significant amount of development time put into it, to the point where modders easily reconstructed it in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. This shows that, at some point, there were plans to make another game set in the Kalos region, but it was apparently scrapped for an unknown reason. Twitter user Lewtwo reported on a new leak coming from 4chan, showing an image of the games' code that includes a title called " calos_reserve" in between Gens VI and VII. Now, seven years after X and Y's Nintendo 3DS release, it's been revealed that it may have been originally planned to develop another game (or two) that would take place in Kalos. This was especially jarring considering the game that came before this was Pokémon Black & White 2, sequel games that were packed with content. Gen VI introduced the immensely powerful Mega Evolutions that gave some old Pokémon new life and made popular ones even more powerful, though X and Y were also criticized for having a lack of postgame content. This financial success continues with Sword and Shield, showing that Pokémon is a hotter item than ever before. Being on the extremely successful 3DS, the games sold immensely well. Pokémon X and Y were the first 3D handheld Pokémon games to be released for the main series. The sixth generation of Pokémon is one of the more divisive eras to many series fans, and this is in part due to Kalos never receiving a sequel or third " Z" version game like the other generations, but that may have not been Game Freak's or Nintendo's original plan. In the most recent Nintendo leak, the plans for cancelled sequels to Pokémon X and Y have been unearthed.
